Vegetable Gardening Tips

vegetable gardening tips Vegetable Gardening TipsThe cost of living seems to be rising all the time, so if you have decided to try and save yourself some money on your groceries by growing veg at home, here are some Vegetable Gardening Tips to help you with your task.

First it makes sense when you are selecting veggies for your garden, that you pick your favorite vegetables. You should plan your garden for the early varieties, as well as the late varieties – this way you should have a longer period of fresh veg.

Plan your veg garden to take account of the fact that some vegetables, for instance, lettuce and radish that mature quite quickly, are able to be planted in between rows of other veg that will take a longer period before they are ready to eat. If you do this you will be utilising your space in the best way.

Remember that your vegetable garden will need watering, and this is obviously required more during any particularly dry periods. As a rule of thumb, vegetables need at least an inch of water weekly, and more as they are reaching the time to be picked.

Keep your eye open for pests. The sooner you realise you have a pest problem, the easier it’s going to be to sort it out. Do not use commercial pesticides on any vegetables that you are going to be harvesting soon. You can always go for the organic options if you need to clear garden pests. Following the organic gardening idea, always try to put any vegetable waste into a compost pile so it is ready for the next season.

You need to check that your vegetable garden is well protected from anything that you may not want there! So if necessary put up a fence to keep out any wandering dogs, rabbits and other animals. You will also be able to use the fence as a frame when you grow veg such as beans, peas or tomatoes that need some support whilst growing.

These vegetable gardening tips should help you to plant, nurture and eventually reap the benefits from your home grown vegetables
