Organic Vegetable Gardening
Organic vegetable gardening is gardening without the use of potentially harmful pesticides and fertilizers that are often used on the larger commercial vegetable gardening sites. You are of course still going to have to get rid of pests, but there are many ways to do this without having to resort to chemicals. Organic gardening is all about growing your vegetables as naturally as possible, which in turn is healthier for you.
The type of climate you have, and your soil type will effect the vegetables that you will be able to grow successfully. The amount of rainfall you have will also play a part in deciding on the right vegetables for your organic garden, as some vegetables require lots of water, whereas others need hardly any at all.
Before you start any actual vegetable planting you will need to make sure that your soil is prepared. This will involve tilling your soil so that it is completely clear of rocks and weeds. Next you need to add the compost, as this will supply the necessary ingredients the soil needs, as well as making sure that the levels of PH are regulated. You can buy an organic fertilizer for your garden – this will include grass clippings, egg shells, old leaves, natural food waste etc.
To keep your soil performing well it’s a good idea to plan to incorporate crop rotation once you have picked your first batch. This just means that you need to have another batch of vegetables ready to plant immediately – it will be better to plant a different type of vegetable to the last one. This will help to keep the soil from going bad.
Growing organic vegetables can be really rewarding, especially when you know absolutely that there are no chemicals are anything unnatural being used in your methods. It can however, also be a challenge especially when you first start your organic vegetable garden. You will soon be more confident with your vegetable growing, and be able to add in all kinds of different vegetables.
